HIMSS is meeting in Las Vegas this year. Much fun was had last year in Orlando especially at the HITx0 Showcase, Leading From the Future ACO Seminar, and New Media Meet-up. Healthcare Transformation
The days of internal debate as to solutions to the 'healthcare cost conundrum' are no longer restricted to circles of health policy wonks, hospital or physician leaders, or beltway think tanks. The horse is out of the barn, and it's clear that our sick care non-system is a drag to the entire US economy. Business as usual with modest tweaks at the margins will no longer do. We need bold and innovative solutions. Any solution oriented event, conversation, workshop, seminar or convention tackling these issues is content for HealthGeek.tv.

Staying with the value proposition of the health [sick] care [non] system redesign imperative, cancer care, and research into best practices, clinical trials and the resultant evidenced based pathways is at the top of the list. Recent advances in genomic medicine and the promise of 'N of 1', individualized medicine is generating considerable excitement. There is much to track from cutting edge conferences such as TEDMED, FutureMed, and FutureHealth to name a few, not to mention the exploding interest in the diagnostic and treatment utility of certain biomarkers.

'Give a man a fish and feed him for the day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.' Or so the saying goes... So here we are in 2012 and we're just beginning to recognize the sociology or behavioral determinants of health, or as Phil Baumann has coined via his blog or the same name 'health is social'. As the shiny object appeal of the limits of acute specialist or 'intensivist medicine' is finally appreciated at least to impact the catastrophic impact of chronic illness, we'll profile others as they 'walk the talk of healthy lifestyle micro choices', particularly of those who appreciate the appeal of mother ocean.
Health Information Technology
Can you connects the dots: ARRA, HITECH, PPACA, HIT, ACO, MSSP, HIE, MU? There actually is coherence and order in this seeming discontinuous and silo-ed chaos. In fact in the aggregate there is a tapestry that emerges with the patient at the center. Thanks to many, but especially Don Berwick, MD, a man with the vision and heart for the needed transformation, we are actually on a trajectory to witness fundamental innovation of our imploding 'sickcare [non] system'. Too much detail to connect here, we'll help tell that story of integration via select broadcasts.
